Roxana fue al mercado el martes por la mañana para hacer las compras de la semana. Encontró una pequeña tienda donde vendían frutas y verduras frescas.
Llenó su canasta hasta arriba, pero casi no podía cargarla sola. Le pareció asombroso que todo costara tan poco — no manches, ¡qué precios tan buenos! Al llegar a casa, colgó el abrigo y puso todo en la cocina.
Roxana went to the market on Tuesday morning to do the week's shopping. She found a small shop where they sold fresh fruits and vegetables.
She filled her basket all the way up, but she could barely carry it on her own. She found it amazing that everything cost so little — no way, what great prices! When she got home, she hung up her coat and put everything in the kitchen.

El espejo no miente [inner_monologue]
Esta mañana me miré al espejo y me quedé un momento en silencio. Las canas y las arrugas ya no son pocas, y pensé: «Todos tenemos que envejecer». Mi abuela siempre decía que cada arruga es una historia vivida. Al final me fui a trabajar un poco más tranquilo con eso.
This morning I looked in the mirror and stood there quietly for a moment. The grey hairs and wrinkles are no longer few, and I thought: "We all have to grow old." My grandmother always said that every wrinkle is a story lived. In the end I went off to work feeling a little more at peace with that.
Los trabajadores en la calle [gossip]
Ayer mi vecina me contó que los conductores de metro declararon una huelga. Nadie pudo llegar al trabajo en metro y las calles estaban llenas de coches. Ella tuvo que caminar cuarenta minutos hasta su oficina. Dice que la huelga va a continuar mañana si la empresa no responde.
Yesterday my neighbour told me that the metro drivers had declared a strike. Nobody could get to work by metro and the streets were packed with cars. She had to walk forty minutes to her office. She says the strike is going to continue tomorrow if the company doesn't respond.

Esperando al técnico en casa
Ramiro tiene que quedarse en casa hoy porque el técnico va a venir a arreglar la lavadora. No sabe exactamente cuándo va a llegar. Llamó a la empresa por la mañana y le dijeron que vendría por la tarde. Hacia las cinco llegará. Ramiro mira el reloj y ve que solo son las tres. Decide preparar un café y esperar tranquilo.
Ramiro has to stay home today because the technician is coming to fix the washing machine. He doesn't know exactly when he'll arrive. He called the company in the morning and they told him it would be in the afternoon. He'll arrive around five o'clock. Ramiro looks at the clock and sees it's only three. He decides to make a coffee and wait calmly.
Una visita al médico
Hoy Fermín fue al médico porque se sentía cansado todo el tiempo. El médico le preguntó qué comía normalmente. Fermín admitió que comía muchas patatas fritas y refrescos. Trato de evitar la comida basura, dijo Fermín, pero no siempre es fácil.
El médico le explicó que una dieta sana puede mejorar mucho su energía. También le dijo que tiene que beber más agua cada día. Fermín salió de la consulta con ganas de cambiar sus hábitos.
Today Fermín went to the doctor because he felt tired all the time. The doctor asked him what he normally ate. Fermín admitted that he ate a lot of crisps and fizzy drinks. I try to avoid junk food, Fermín said, but it isn't always easy.
The doctor explained that a healthy diet can make a big difference to his energy levels. He also told him that he needs to drink more water every day. Fermín left the surgery feeling ready to change his habits.
