Un desayuno tardío en la cocina [diary]
Esta mañana Rufina se levantó temprano para preparar el desayuno, pero la nevera estaba casi vacía. Solo encontró dos huevos, así que decidió hacerlos estrellados.
Mientras el café se calentaba, echó un vistazo al vecindario por la ventana y vio a don Aurelio hablando solo en la calle — algo sospechoso, la verdad. Entre tú y yo, ese hombre siempre hace las mismas cosas cada mañana; generalmente camina hasta la esquina y vuelve sin razón aparente. Rufina lo observó un momento más, luego ordenó su pequeña mesa, se sentó y por fin disfrutó su desayuno — un placer sencillo pero asombroso después de una mañana tan rara.
This morning Rufina got up early to make breakfast, but the fridge was almost empty. She only found two eggs, so she decided to make them fried.
While the coffee was warming up, she glanced out the window at the neighborhood and spotted Don Aurelio talking to himself in the street — honestly, a little suspicious. Between you and me, that man always does the same things every morning; he generally walks to the corner and comes back for no apparent reason. Rufina watched him for a moment longer, then tidied her little table, sat down, and finally enjoyed her breakfast — a simple but amazing pleasure after such a strange morning.

El vuelo cancelado [anecdote]
Sebastián llegó al aeropuerto con dos horas de anticipación y estaba muy tranquilo. Pero cuando miró el tablero de salidas, vio que su vuelo estaba cancelado. "Chale", dijo en voz baja, sin poder creerlo. Tuvo que hacer una larga fila para que le dieran otro vuelo al día siguiente.
Sebastián arrived at the airport two hours early and was feeling pretty relaxed. But when he looked at the departures board, he saw that his flight was cancelled. "Damn," he muttered under his breath, unable to believe it. He had to wait in a long line to be rebooked on a flight the next day.

Un robo en el barrio [anecdote]
Ayer por la noche, alguien entró a robar en la tienda de la esquina. Los vecinos escucharon ruidos y llamaron a la policía. La policía arrestó al sospechoso anoche. Esta mañana, todo el barrio está hablando del incidente.
Bernabé, el dueño de la tienda, dice que no falta mucho dinero. Pero tiene que hablar con la policía para dar su declaración. Después va a cerrar la tienda un par de días.
Last night, someone broke into the corner shop. The neighbors heard noises and called the police. The police arrested the suspect last night. This morning, the whole neighborhood is talking about the incident.
Bernabé, the shop owner, says not much money is missing. But he has to speak with the police to give his statement. After that, he is going to close the shop for a couple of days.
El brindis en la boda de Rodrigo [anecdote]
El salón está lleno de flores y música suave. Rodrigo y Valentina acaban de casarse hace unos minutos. Me pongo de pie y levanto la copa. Quiero brindar por los novios. Les deseo mucha felicidad y muchos años juntos. Todos aplauden y repiten el brindis conmigo.
The hall is full of flowers and soft music. Rodrigo and Valentina got married just a few minutes ago. I stand up and raise my glass. I want to toast to the bride and groom. I wish them much happiness and many years together. Everyone claps and joins me in the toast.
