Domingo en casa de la abuela [anecdote]
Mi abuela vive en una casa ancha con un jardín lleno de gallinas. Cada domingo voy a visitarla con mi hermana, que es su nieta favorita. Esta mañana la abuela estaba cocinando y se le cayó un huevo al suelo. El piso quedó resbaladizo y casi me caigo cuando entré a la cocina. Ella me iba a regañar, pero se rió y dijo que tienes razón, hay que tener más cuidado. Después me ofreció ayudar a limpiar o a poner la mesa, y elegí lo segundo. ¿Sabías que ella siempre cocina huevos los domingos porque le recuerda a su infancia? Cuando terminamos, nos sentamos a comer y miramos el paisaje desde la ventana, tranquilos.
My grandmother lives in a wide house with a yard full of chickens. Every Sunday I go visit her with my sister, who is her favorite granddaughter. This morning grandma was cooking and dropped an egg on the floor. The floor became slippery and I almost fell when I walked into the kitchen. She was about to scold me, but she laughed and said you're right, we should be more careful. Afterward she offered to let me help clean or set the table, and I chose the second one. Did you know that she always cooks eggs on Sundays because it reminds her of her childhood? When we finished, we sat down to eat and looked at the view from the window, calm and content.

El repartidor de pizza llega tarde [anecdote]
El repartidor tocó el timbre a las nueve de la noche. Carla llevaba una hora esperando su pizza. Él se disculpó porque había mucho tráfico en la calle principal. Carla le dio una propina y cerró la puerta con hambre.
The delivery man rang the bell at nine at night. Carla had been waiting an hour for her pizza. He apologized because there was a lot of traffic on the main street. Carla gave him a tip and closed the door, hungry.
Cancelando el picnic por la lluvia [anecdote]
Dado que estaba lloviendo mucho, decidimos cancelar el picnic. Marta ya había preparado los sándwiches para todos. Al final nos quedamos en casa y vimos una película. Fue una tarde tranquila a pesar de la lluvia.
Given that it was raining hard, we decided to cancel the picnic. Marta had already made sandwiches for everyone. In the end we stayed home and watched a movie. It was a relaxing afternoon despite the rain.

Resfriado en casa [diary]
Hoy me desperté con la garganta muy irritada. Mi tía preparó un té caliente y me trajo una pastilla. Ella me dice que tengo que tomarla ahora mismo. No me gusta el sabor, pero trago la medicina. Después bebo un poco de agua para quitar el sabor amargo. Mi tía sonríe y me dice que pronto voy a sentirme mejor. Me acuesto otra vez y cierro los ojos. Espero dormir un rato antes de la cena.
Today I woke up with a very sore throat. My aunt made some hot tea and brought me a pill. She tells me I have to take it right now. I don't like the taste, but I swallow the medicine. Afterward I drink a bit of water to get rid of the bitter taste. My aunt smiles and tells me I'll feel better soon. I lie down again and close my eyes. I hope to sleep a little before dinner.
Una llamada matutina con mamá [anecdote]
Mamá me llama por teléfono mientras preparo el café. Tengo una sensación extraña hoy. No sé por qué, pero algo no está bien. Ella me pregunta si dormí suficiente anoche. Mom calls me on the phone while I'm making coffee. I have a strange sensation today. I don't know why, but something isn't right. She asks me if I slept enough last night. I tell her yes, but that I had a weird dream. Then she laughs and tells me not to worry so much. After hanging up, I feel a little better. Still, I'm going to be careful today.
